How to get .dem files to play?

Noob question here. How exactly do I get the .dem files to play? When I go to open them, it auto chooses steam, but then gives me an error when I go to open it. Error reads "Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'hl2'. Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting." No idea what that means. Am I actually missing something, don't have a correct app, or just a setting I missed somewhere? Any help much appreciated.

Start TF2, then go to the console and type demoui

Click Load and find the file on your computer.

You have to enable the console if you haven't already.

    Gen,

You can also just put the dem you down loaded in your:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\your name\team fortress 2\tf

    Directory

From there type in the console: playdemo and all the .dem files you have in that folder will show up. An even better way to load and watch demos especially checking for suspected cheat demos is to hit Shift+F2. This will bring up a demo player that allows you to load, pause, frame by frame advance, or go to slow motion.

Wow, I typed in the same "error' message in googlie, and SF was one of the first english pages I got.
    Yay time to watch demo's!
There used to be unimportant crap here. Still is, I suppose.
