Well, I've been playing on the Stompfest TF2 servers for a while now and I figured it was high time I took a peeksy in the forums. I generally don't like playing shooters online, as I just don't have the reflexes and reactions for it, resulting in me getting my butt handed to me so much that it's no fun for anyone. Then a friend gave me the Orange Box as a gift, which I thought was awesome because I'd heard about how cool Portal was. I was not dissapointed, but it's a relatively short game, so after a while I decided to check out this other game they bundled in with it that I didn't know anything about.

I was hooked on TF2 very quickly. I didn't HAVE to have super 1337 twitch skillz, I could find ways to play within my style and abilities and still do well and have fun. Plus the overall atmosphere of the game is great... the goofy sci-fi aspects (teleporters, medi gun, etc.), the humorous one-liners delivered by the characters, and the incredibly amusing expressions on the heavy's face. :-)

So I cast about a bit and tried out different servers before I found Stompfest. I have found that the SF regulars are mature (no, seriously), skillful players, yet they generally don't take it too seriously. If I screw up I don't have anyone yell at me, I don't have to put up with juvenille antics like mic spamming or obscene sprays, and very often the gameplay is quite fun. On top of all that, I seem to fit in well skill level wise... I'm often smack in the middle of the scoreboard, which is perfect. I'm not usually getting my butt kicked, but I've still got challenging opponents to face.

I really DO have a mic, in case anyone was wondering, but I'm pretty introverted, even online, so I tend to not chatter much unless it's gameplay related. I enjoy listening to the banter, though, even if I usually keep quiet myself.

Be warned, I also tend to write lengthy posts, like this one, so feel free to just skip over any bits that seem boring :-)

Also, Eclyps, your avatar is downright frightening. ;-)

Welcome to Stompfest, tis a great place indeed. I occasionally go on other servers, but really, most of them seem to take no care to keep things friendly. You may see or hear some BS on Stompfest, but the admins here kick ass and do a great job of keeping the game fun and keeping the douches off the servers.

Welcome Baysin. I've seen you around normally on FRS around the Gravel Pit. Don't worry. If your skill is week we have plenty of fine Medics around to keep you alive. Dianne and myself come to mind....

"I'm your Medic, You think I'm in the bitch seat? Yeah I heard you said it.
You think that it's a n00b class? Man don't you get it!
They call it a support class because I carry your ass!
Don't forget it!"

Hey, thanks all! I've seen most or all of you around.
Billy Pilgrim has this issue with being unstuck in time, though. So it goes.
Tango, your real life medic gear is uber leet hawtness and you are to be worshipped for it.

Glad I could help save a couple of you the other night, I'm guessing I was playing medic. I usually don't, so I'm a bit nub at medic, but I felt the team really needed one at the time so I stepped up. I mostly play pyro, engie, and heavy, with solid stints at demo or soldier when it's strategic to do so. I absolutely love being a crazy, aggressive, suicidal pyro, so I try to go pyro whenever it seems justifiable. Setting people on fire just never gets old. :-)

Good man! I generally don't like playing medic, but will switch to medic if my team doesn't have one...at least until I figure out that no one on my team knows to protect their medic.
