Well, I've been playing on the Stompfest TF2 servers for a while now and I figured it was high time I took a peeksy in the forums. I generally don't like playing shooters online, as I just don't have the reflexes and reactions for it, resulting in me getting my butt handed to me so much that it's no fun for anyone. Then a friend gave me the Orange Box as a gift, which I thought was awesome because I'd heard about how cool Portal was. I was not dissapointed, but it's a relatively short game, so after a while I decided to check out this other game they bundled in with it that I didn't know anything about.
I was hooked on TF2 very quickly. I didn't HAVE to have super 1337 twitch skillz, I could find ways to play within my style and abilities and still do well and have fun. Plus the overall atmosphere of the game is great... the goofy sci-fi aspects (teleporters, medi gun, etc.), the humorous one-liners delivered by the characters, and the incredibly amusing expressions on the heavy's face. :-)
So I cast about a bit and tried out different servers before I found Stompfest. I have found that the SF regulars are mature (no, seriously), skillful players, yet they generally don't take it too seriously. If I screw up I don't have anyone yell at me, I don't have to put up with juvenille antics like mic spamming or obscene sprays, and very often the gameplay is quite fun. On top of all that, I seem to fit in well skill level wise... I'm often smack in the middle of the scoreboard, which is perfect. I'm not usually getting my butt kicked, but I've still got challenging opponents to face.
I really DO have a mic, in case anyone was wondering, but I'm pretty introverted, even online, so I tend to not chatter much unless it's gameplay related. I enjoy listening to the banter, though, even if I usually keep quiet myself.
Be warned, I also tend to write lengthy posts, like this one, so feel free to just skip over any bits that seem boring :-)
Also, Eclyps, your avatar is downright frightening. ;-)
