SOO basically this whole "2fort challenge" deal has gotten me back into the spirit of competitive gaming and i would love to see us start a team, we've got an amazing roster coming from all 3 servers and i think we could make a kick ass team out of SF

so what im basically getting at is we enter CAL and TWL as a team, we set a roster out of everyone who would like to be involved and we go for it

the way this works for people who are unfamiliar with it is as follows:

CAL- basically a really big gaming league, possibly the biggest. this league works in seasons, just like sports, only the top players from SF would be mainlining this team with several backups.

sounds a little tough BUT when teams enter CAL, they get noticed, getting noticed = more members, more members = more possible subscribers. so its all in good fun

TWL - this is a ladder, basically we get matches every couple days or so but since its just a rated ladder anyone who wishes to play would be allowed a spot on the team regardless of skill this league is just to have some fun.

there are other leagues out there (many many more) but these 2 im particularly familiar with (having brought several CSS teams through cal and twl)

SO i ask YOU my fellow SF members

would you be interested in joinin a competitive league?

before saying yes state which league you would be interested in (both is fine) and please be aware that joining the teams would quite possibly mean having some practices and running strategies etc so some time would have to be offered to the team.

as far as servers go i know (could be wrong) we dont have a private server. SO assuming this goes well enough i could possibly chip in for another smaller private server if aeveryone really gets into this.

naturally i would assume full responsibility for the teams and take care of all the organisations, would anyone wish to help out just send me a PM and we'll see what we can work out.

so thast about it, post away!:character0021:

I'll throw my hat in for either team, which ever we can get started here. It would be nice to spend time playing on teams who take the game at least some what serious. "Stacked" teams win because they have several people who know what they are doing and are good at working togther to complete objectives and just be point whores. I'm all for having fun, I just have more fun when playing with "team"mates and not just random people looking out for themselves.

If it gets far enough that it matters, my best classes are Demo, Heavy, Eng and Pyro. Will also play Medic if necessary and I am an ok Scout. I do not do so well as a Solider, Sniper or Spy.

I was roaming around the CAL and TWL pages.

Apparently <SF> is already #1 in a (dead) ladder (5v5 - Fast Attack).
http://www.teamwarfare.com/viewladder.asp?ladder=Team+Fortress+2%3A+NA+-+5v5+Fast+Attack

The Team Profile -> http://www.teamwarfare.com/viewTeam.asp?team=Stompfest+1
Lists Iron Lung as the team's founder, with B1onde, Ditship, and El_Scorcho as the remaining active members.

Game History -> http://www.teamwarfare.com/history.asp?Keydata=Stompfest+1
14 games played (4 Wins - 9 Loses) between 2/7/2008 and 5/5/2008.

So would this be a hijack/re-start or something new?
(I don't know about the TWL but in CAL you need at least 4 active members to remain or else the team is considered "hijacked". Hijacked teams get purged, and get to start fresh.)

ouch 4-9 in twl =/ i'm pretty interested in actually just joining these leagues to use the stompfest tags, i dont see what we would have to lose, if it fails it fails, if not then you have a chance to get more members, that and everyone involved gets to have a little competitive fun

Id be up for it, im itching for a little more objective based teamplay, the games 10x more fun when everyone's doing whats right, instead of a team that has players all over the level.

Our twl team was a 7v7 limited ladder where we went 4-9 because we were a bunch of competition noobs. It was super stressful and there were way too many politics for us to handle. So... we broke it up and have since started the CAL team which is a select few of the same group of people, way more chemistry and experience.

I think we just found joining these leagues for fun made it unfun as losing is not fun at all. Our CAL team is the more serious attempt.

to be honest ive never found TWL to be that complicated, i would do all the prep and take care of setting times dates etc. pretty much the only thing missing would be a private server

I've never done anything like this before, but I would be down to play.

Calling the Scout slot.

Its not that the clerical work was complicated it was the fact that almost none of us besides myself had played any kind of competitive gaming before. In addition we had alot of people on the team that shouldn't have been because they really wern't up to snuff skill wise, we're lazy and never came to practice, or people who just gave up after a couple losses. The politics blonde refers to is the fact that we couldn't just start cutting these people from the team without drama blowback from the rest of the community.

That being said, if you want all the twl info, I'll gladly hand it over. The 5v5 Ladder never started(lack of signups) and before TKO that was blonde and I's little side project.

if this were to be started again, one thing a community i played cod4 with would do was to have a small tournament every month to rank players who wanted to play competitively, they would also start a server a few hours before a match and allow everyone to play in heat rounds and pull players from that game into the live match, i liked the second style ans it would get players who were on their a game that night represent us, which allowed a lot of players to have a chance at playing, because you got to compete for a slot every week, and compete for the community as a whole if you were playing well. however with the number of classes in TF vs that in COD this would be a more difficult decision, a captain would probably be required to select players who are doing the best. just a few cents.

It would probably be better if you made it "By invitation only" and never even put up a solicitation for people. That way the only person responsible for the glory and/or humiliation is yourself. You'll retain all rights to boot people that "aren't up to snuff" (I never really understood that saying) and assign substitutes as necessary.

The second method is good for deathmatch type situations, but with tf2 there is alot of planning that goes on, and its best to have players on the team that know the plan and can stick to it, also a teams effectiveness only goes up the longer the same group of people continue to play together and develop chemistry etc..

Yeah, aside from individual skill (which probably trumps all), continuity is one of the biggest factors in how successful a team is. The more you play together, the more you just 'feel' what your team is doing. And that is REALLY important in a setting like 6v6, where the tide of a match can turn in an instant.

well ill be honest the only team i would really care about ranking is CAL, the TWL team i would let anyone who would want to play come in regardless of how well they play. its a ladder i think its just fun stuff and besides we do have some really good players that lurk around the servers

I'm interested in playing for both teams. My best class is soldier, but I can play everything but engineer well.

Who can't play engineer? Build a dispenser, turn around, build a sentry, switch to the wrench, and type +attack in the console.:anim_25:

I can do that part, but I seem to be completely unable to get anything up in the setup time and get confused when a spy is sapping while im getting attacked cause my brain's processor is old and only has one core.

Lobotomy's multiply cores, their cheap and easy too, a demo with a coat hanger could handle it for ya in exchange for a bottle of scotch.

LOL. Just gotta build somewhat near where ammo respawns. The more the better, but even the +41 ones help a lot. For example, you start with 200 ammo... you build a dispenser for -100, then you get a +41 ammo box, and you can start building a sentry. While they're building themselves, you can run and get more ammo... whack the dispenser to make it build faster as you run past it. Of course, going to spawn and touching a locker will fill you back up. Sentry placement can be tricky. Either you put it in a "good" spot, which tends to be a predictable spot, or put it someplace unpredictable and worry more about using your shotty and frequently relocating the sentry rather than worry about upgrading it. Just some thoughts. Sorry for the thread hijack!
