Summoning those with a PS3

So, I decided to break my wallet by going for a used ps3 (40 GB - not interested in playing ps2 games. Price was $315), along with upgrading my PC and getting a new 26' monitor (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10008300) specifically for actual 1080p resolution. I decided to go 26' after researching for quite a while, and deciding that it's the sweet spot, as 28' is too big for my tiny room and 24' is not big enough. KDS is a very reputable company as well, though many people may not know them :)

Though I've played consoles occasionally, I've always been a hardcore PC gamer. I decided to go for the ps3 mainly because of the bluray drive, but I also expect to see quality games coming its way once the devs get used to the hardware.

So, who else here has a ps3? Though the thought of playing a game with puny gamepads horrifies me, I'm very much interested in playing multiplayer (online) games. For the moment, I'm thinking about buying Motorstorm and the Boxing game (forgot the name), because they look pretty good and also have online play.

So, what are your recommendations? What games do the fellow ps3'ers play here? I also plan to get MGS, but I'll wait for GTA4 PC version. I'm also eagerly awaiting the arrival of quality rpgs, and fighting games (MK, Tekken etc.) with good online play.

you might have to wait a long ass time my friend, nothing short of FF13 seems to be announced on ps3, at least nothing thats caught my attention in terms of rpg's

gt5 prologue is a good game to rent, imo, gt5 should be coming out in nov/dec 08, and w.e else floats ur boat, but i would recommend renting before buying. saves money that way

I'd wait for Motorstorm:Pacific Rift to come out. Motorstorm was incredibly fun (and beautiful) but lacked a couple key elements to racing games which they have addressed in Pacific Rift, it comes out this fall so wait if you can. Ratchet and Clank is amazingly fun and obviously MGS4.

Soul Calibur IV comes out in 2 weeks so wait to get that. for an RPG out right now there isn't a whole lot but Folklore is sort of RPGish, it's more Action/Adventure but a very VERY underrated game. Uncharted is also a whole lot of fun as well.

You could get Resistance but Resistance 2 comes out this year around the holidays if you feel like waiting, i'm not a big FPS fan on consoles so i didn't really get into it but a few friends of mine really liked it. Heaveanly Sword was amazingly pretty but short and lacked a little, It took me about 6 hours to beat it, i'd just rent it, still kinda fun.


Oh and if you really enjoy the Devil May Cry games they have DMC4 out which is also a whole lot of fun.

I'm not gonna say UT3 of CoD4 cause you can get that shit on PC which is by default gonna be better (Mouse and Keyboard ftw).

I would still say get GTA IV but just because it's a whole lot of fun and hours of drunk entertainment plus the online is a TON of fun, especially if you have friends to play with.

third get a demo if you can of Prologue its worth just seeing you're favorite dream car in High Def and cruising in it.

If you want my suggestions, try Dynasty Warriors 6 and Bladestorm: Hundred Years War.

If you truely are a hardcore gamer for PC likey ou say you are stay the F away from UT3 and CoD4 (bad trinity! FPS on consoles SUCK!)

DW6 is a hack n slash game that takes place in China's Romance of the Three Kingdoms era (150-22?) AD I believe. You can play as major characters in the era and fight in actual battles that took place. Its really easy to become fascinated with the era like I have been for a few years now. Its actually based off of a book some guy wrote a long time ago, but his book is based off of actual history, meaning the people actually existed, but some of the events have been altered. For example, if you get into the era, you will find out about a battle called Battle for Si Shui Gate, where a coalition was going against a tyrant who seized power. This battle was one of the 2 gates guarding the capital of this tyrant, and a general named Hua Xiong guarded it. In the novel Hua Xiong charged out and pushed Sun Jian (one of the lords in the coalition and vanguard for the battle) back. Someone named Guan Yu then fought Hua Xiong and killed him, but in actual recorded history it says Sun Jian repelled Hua Xiong's attack and killed him.
Very fascinating game, and if you get bored of the hack n slash, being interested in the era still keeps you playing.

I personally have never played Bladestorm but its made by the same company as Dynasty Warriors, so its bound to be good.

i always liked the dynasty warriors games, but i never owned a ps2, but my cousin bought them so i always got to play them a little, and i played the one on the psp (although was a little disappointed by it tbh..)

Ive seen some screenies and vids of bladestorm and it looks quite good, and as pros said, made by the same company as Dynasty Warriors, so take a look :)

360 owns the ps3 in any way shape and form, the games are better, the graphics are better, and the online capability is better blah blah blah

if you do get one do what someone else already suggested and put in a bigger hard drive. If i remember right any laptop HD will work with it, its not some special connection like the damn xbox

By the way, I don't understand the need for a bigger HD. Unlike the pc, 40gb seems plenty enough for me, unless you're required to actually install each game instead of popping in the disc and playing.

i think you can download game demos so ya need some space in there, and also you can never have too much disk space

you're required to actually install each game instead of popping in the disc and playing.

most game require a download to HDD. look on the back of the game to determine the space.
this will then allow u to preload from the HDD instead of disc.

Oh well...I'll buy a 250 GB 2.5" HD sometime in the future. Also after much research, I decided to break my bank account (again) and go for the full Rock Band bundle :)

I want to avoid FPS games as much as possible, because the sheer thought of playing an FPS with a gamepad is enough to give me nightmares. I don't know how anyone who's used to the Keyboard + Mouse combo would ever play them with gamepads :fighting0038:
