So my roomate is really into warcraft and plays DotA all the time and tried to get me hooked on it a while back. I sucked at it and really didnt have the patience to keep playing (I was enjoying tf2 way more). I've tried to get him to play tf2 but no dice :frown:. He wants me to try it again and i think i'm going to give it a go for a while. Anyway the point of this was i was just wondering if any stompfesters play dota or used to? /give me some n00b pointers

I feel you man.

on a thread note: I always liked to play the right side on DotA, never really knew why but the right side was always comfortable for me.

Another thing that helped me with items is that I printed out the tables and everything so I could quick reference them since that shit was so annoying to make.

Tip #3, make sure you are KSing creeps using dotahealth so you can see which ones are low, it gets you more gold and takes it from the other player :)

I was a turret defense guy myself. Something about making mazes satisfies some dark part of my soul.

yeah thats probably a good idea. thats one reason i didnt play long, i really didnt know all the items that were there, let alone what i needed to make them. thanks

Alt is your friend. Deny creeps from the other team, aka kill your friendly creeps that are low on health. Call missing heroes from your lane and watch out for surprise attacks from everywhere.
I used to play it with a friend but I sucked so bad at it.

Eh, never was into dota that much, Turret Defence games were my main games, and boy was i good at them :D
Some pointers i did pick up though.

Learn what items you need, learn where the "secret" item vendors are, dont rush the middle if you are a intelligence based hero unless there is at LEAST one strength based hero helping you, infact if you are intelligence based, for the first few levels you won't really want to do anything by yourself otherwise every enemy hero will target you...

I've been thinking about reinstalling my WC3.. are you playing regular or The Frozen Throne?

Also if you're a noober, you may want to start in All Pick games so you can pick the same hero every game until you get more comfy.

i have the frozen throne installed
and yeah, i try to stick with the all pick games. one thing that bothers me when im playing though is sometimes when my teamates realize i suck and am inexperienced they will leave.

Dota definetly isnt noob friendly. Riddled with leavers too. I wish Bnet had some sort of reputation system, or the creators of dota endorsed a program where you could shift/tab like steam to view everyone's reputation. Thats why when I play dota I always play private games or TDA games. Because either you own and everyone you go against leaves, or you lose and everyone on the other team griefs you.

Funny, the same thing happens when you play TF2.
