Would the choice to play as a Female version of any class in TF2 be good or bad?

If you could not only choose your class, but the gender you play as, would that be a good thing or a bad thing in TF2?

It seems like a running joke in the forums and on some servers even, that even a hint that a player might even possibly be female is more distraction than some guys can handle. My wife wants to know why most games are mostly male charactors. I should have said because the majority of players are male. Instead I chose an answer that might result in my wife trying to smother me with a pillow while I sleep.

So for the guys, would you find it distracting if the females you play against could actually choose a female charactor equivalant? And to the girls/women out there, would you even choose to have a female version of your charactor running around during your gameplay if you could?

Generally I prefer playing as girls in gaming generally. It goes with the usual trend of agility over just raw power (tf2 being my general exception as I suck with scout...) I don't think it would be all the distracting mainly cause this game is a fps and there for in generally the main backside/front side that you will be looking at with be that of your enemy, which is for a fairly short time lets hope, or your team mate, whom you already pay infinitely less attention to generally. This excluded the medic class, as well as the occasional spy check.

If there was a female scout, I would definitely opt for the male version. Nothing is worse than a female with a thick Boston accent.

I cringe at the idea of female voices in tf2. It's bad enough that people have to listen to me.

Ha Ha Ha. Everyone thinks their own voice sounds weird Diane. I don't pay attention to the way a voice sounds as much as what they might say that will help me. Before I worked in Bars, I used to cut hair for a living. Great way to meet women and learn a lot about them along the way. I don't think women were ever able to influence me as much after I worked with and on (no pun intended) them for close to 10 years. I think I do appreciate my wife more because of that experience though.
I think there would be a lot of people bitching more about the game advocating violence against women. The same people that overlook the fact that women in the military face the same risk for loss of life, limbs or senses that men do. Veterns Day and the 4th of July always make me remember and appreciate those who have and continue to fight for and serve our country, men and women both.
I just wonder how many guys would hesitate or be unable to pull the trigger, use a melee weapon or backstab a female charactor. And, how many would try to use it.

Now take away the easy gender bias and say the female characters handle the same weapons and lose health points at the same rates. I'm not saying the Pyro is going to go all burning bed crazy or that the female Demo is going to start lobbing tampax grenades (though the adhesive strips they advertise would make for a funny sticky and it would clean up after itself, but I digress) let's just say that you lose nothing by playing as a female. If you're into that kind of thing. Hey, who am I to judge? Lol

I used to play as female characters in UT, because they're a smaller target (slimmer bodies).. Now, I play as marcus fenix.. because I'm the shit.

pfft, female characters wouldnt really make as much difference as people seem to think, it may seem a little strange at first but within a week or so everything would be pretty much the same again, and yea, designing female characters at this stage would be pretty much just wasted time like pros said.

meh female characters would be no change for me. I'd just hit random on that choice as well. I really don't look at the other players cause I'm too busy dodging ammo

I think it'd be great. Not only would we have a choice in the gender, but we'd also get a great new map from valve - cp_kitchen so they'd have some place to be.
