do you want this on the srs tonight or tomorrow night? i dont know how possible it is to get into rotation. but it does need a test on srs before it goes on the srs party

ok i think it will be fun cuz it puts a new element into the game, with the sinking of the boat. pandabear played it today and could not believe that it was sinking. lol but there is a built-in timer set to 30 min. which i think is enough time. the water is about chest high when you are on the deck then.

Studying this map there are many flaws that I dont think it would work well on a server.

- Too wide open to get to the last point and spawn camp, even if the other team covered the top area it would then cost them in the point struggle.
- Confusing to find the middle point, took me a few mins with all the varying floors. IF you want my opinion, you should make it like dustbowl, phases of the map. Phase 1 take over the engine area, phase 2 take over 2nd floor, phase 3 take over the deck.
- To many dark areas, users shouldnt have to turn up their brightness to see, it also gives advantage to blue becuase thier color blends in the dark more.
- Too many narrow hallways that will be a haven for engineers and demomen, open it up a bit more and tighten it in wide open areas.
- If you fall off the boat you have to locate dark patch in the wall and attack it for a minute for it to open, this will not attract new users who don't know about it. They will fall off and either type kill in console or leave.

My 2 cents.

yes it might be confusing one the first try but did you know how to play cp_aqua the first time.

yea i know it is dark but i made it that way.

I did play the map, that show I was able to create an extensive review, but still, users won't be able to /dont want to locate those open areas. I's just suggest instant death if you fall. Or make a collision with the edges of the ship so you dont fall.

Aqua doesn't really compare to this map, aqua was pretty straight forward, only thing that was not known by all was the "swift water" but still that map was removed for a reason.

Like I said, take out all the varying floors and make it a phase map like hydro or dustbowl, with each floor as a phase. Kind of a "dominate the ship" map.

And Like I said, whether or not you made it dark, it gives an advantage to one team over the other given the light tone of each color.

Whatever the faults of this map might be, we need to get it playtested on our servers. Ikem's done a lot of work on this thing and its tough to guage how it's going to flow without getting more than a couple people in there.

As a community, I hope we can support our resident map-makers and encourage them to keep producing. The very real possiblity of being picked up by Valve should encourage map-makers to hone their skills, and whatever we can do to help them as they learn and continue to develop new maps, I think we should definitely do, and with enthusiasm.

I appriciate Pros' criticisms, though I don't necessarily agree with all of them. I think it's pretty safe to say that any custom map, community-created or not, doesn't have a good chance of staying in the regular rotation, if for no other reason than they tend to drop new people who don't want to bother downloading a new map (i.e. egypt - say what you will, but I really dig that map), but if we can at least do them once in a while on special occasions or make them available for rock the vote, then I think it's still worth it.

Oh and after we play it we can come back here and ask for opinions. If people just go nuts over it maybe it'll get added to the rotation... if people kinda like it maybe we'll play it on party night. If not we'll dump it. Ikem you just need to be prepared for what people might say... good or bad... and take it in stride.


Edit: One more thing to keep in mind. Building a map is kind of like art. Even if you don't like the final product, you should take the time and piece of mind to appreciate the effort, skill, and talent it took to create it.

I actually thought Pros gave reasonably constructive criticism there.

I haven't had an opportunity to check it out myself yet, but if we're playtesting it tomorrow on SF I am all for that. I'm certainly interested.
