hmmmmmmmmmmmm tough call

zombies ate my neighbors, super metroid, TMNT IV: Turtles In Time, FF6, Xenogears, Super Mario 3, golden eye, Mario Kart 64, and Zelda: Link to the Past

could all work for me

Sid Meier's Civilization (with a minor in Colonization) - the first one in 2D.

The thing is, I can still pick up these game and still play them today. Graphics don't matter - the gameplay is so well done that I'm just immediately pulled in.

I was crushed when they decided not to do Civ Revolution on the PSP.

Ohhhh boy. *Cracks Knuckles* I cannot choose just ONE game mate.

I first fell in love with Super Mario Bros for NES. There were no other games like it, and the gameplay was almost endless. Also, I loved all of the secrets/easter eggs you could find.

The next big one I absolutely loved was Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The plot was flawless IMHO, and the game had both aspects of fun and adventure. There were a ton of side missions you could do, yet you could also play straight through the bosses. I also loved the different environments and just everything about the plot and how you could go from being a kid to an adult. At the time the graphics were amazing as well. I grew up on that game, and I honestly adore it.

Shortly after that I started getting into Halo:CE. This was really my first experience with multiplayer..... I remember distinctively running 4 player split-screen for 8 hours straight. I am also a huge fan of the entire Halo series, mostly because of the multiplayer aspect.

Not sure if it was before or after Halo:CE that I got into CS 1.6, but is also another one of my favorite games. That sparked my love for CSS, though I think at the time of 1.6 I had lot more fun, with CSS gaming has become a lot more competitive for me. I used to just enjoy it as a hobby, but now its been more about owning kids :D

God damn........ I need to get an N64 and Zelda again.

//edit: Whats your favorite game E?
//edit: I just realized that I am a genius. I'm gonna grab an emulator and zelda and use my 360 controller to play :D

To indecisive too many bloody choices...

Zelda Ocerina of time was quite good I must say.

Final Fantasy VII, one of the few games I played more then once (even if the reasoning was that I kept getting corrupt memory card right before sephiroth)

Kingdom Hearts I and II: These where a lot of fun, both had strong and weak points, and as such they arrive in such a position as I have given them only when together.

Grand Theft Auto Series: Always fun and good for stress release. I haven't played the most recent though.

Team Fortress 2: I play this game way too much not to count put it here.

There are likely others, but these are the ones that come to mind.

If you don't remember these games, then you're either too young or you aren't a true gamer!

Yeah, very hard. Probably one from every system would be easier.

SMS- R-Type.

NES- SMB 2 IDK why, just the art/music drew meh in(plus it's not even supposed to be mario game!!!) SMB3 for repeated plays.

Genesis- Really all sonics for all around. Damn music is meh fav. S+K top of that list, maybe Spinball too. Can't even think of other games now--

N64- Yes Zelda OoT, or mario 64 or perfect dark/007. the 64 didn't have too many great games.

PS1- Oddworld series. Don't remember any of the PS1 games

PS2- ummm waaaaaay too many. FF8(didn't like 7, IDK why)?

Xbox- Yeahs Halo2. Oddworld Munch("Stranger" too). Fable.

Computer- Yeah it's not a "console" to say(I think it is) . 1 word=ALICE

Yeah, hard to pick just one.

I'm going to break mine down by platform and platform as I see fit :) :
Intellivision: AstroSmash
Apple IIGS: Strategic Conquest
NES: ummm... I was addicted to Ultima IV: Exodus, but it wasn't all that exhilirating... I'm actually going to go with Tetris.
Arcade: Mortal Kombat

And now onto the PC games:
Multi-Player FPS: TF2
Single-Player FPS: F.E.A.R.
RTS: Any C&C game... I'll go with Generals. Age of Empires [1] gets and honorable mention.
Turn-Based Strategy: Civilization 2
Other: EarthSiege [1] & Descent

Gawd, there are so many more I want to mention...

//edit: OMFG, I forgot to mention Tie Fighter [1]

Intellivision?! Geez, you might as well have put Pong. If you're going to go that far back, then I really liked War Games on the Coleco Adam. Also Alpiner on the Ti-994a.

Seriously though, I should probably mention Wasteland on the C64, Original Zelda on the NES as well as Metroid.

The Quest games were pretty good (Kings, Space, Police).

And yes, OoT was that epic. Also a favorite of mine.

C&C:Red Alert Took a lot of my time at one point, and I was addicted to TFC for awhile. TF2 is great, but really it should have come out a long time ago. Did my time in CS 1.6 too.

Diablo also deserves an honorable mention.

And on the Atari 2600 - Warlords!

mine is a game no one here has probably played

its a japanese game called monster hunter, it started out on the ps2 the original one being the best by far.

i remember playing a solid 800 hours of this game online with other people.

the point of the game was to basically be a hunter, you would team up with 3 others and go out on quests to kill very large wyverns and other beasts then carve pieces off them to create your weapons and armor.

i shit you not when i say i was one of the few to have the top EVERYTHING in this game (best weapons and armor) the game itself got a little repetitive but stayed incredibly fun.

if anyone here owns a psp they can buy monster hunter freedom 2, IMO best graphics on any psp game to date and really worth a try. be warned though this game is incredibly tough when you have to start fighting gigantic fire breathing ginormous dragons

Ok guys, don't laugh to hard, but I have a confession: I have never played a Zelda game in my life. Please don't ban me!

Ironically, though, my wife bought a Zelda game to go with the new Wii she bought on Sunday.

I don't think that Zelda for the Wii is a particularly good one - I think it was just ported from another product and not specifically written for the Wii, so it would be available as a launch title. It certainly doesn't make many favorites lists.

However, the great thing about the Wii is you can download old 64/NES/Sega/Neo Geo games via one of the channels. For $10 you can get Ocarina of Time, I think for $5 you can get the original NES Zelda. If you were going to sink some time into a Zelda game I'd choose one of those.

As for other titles, Wii Fit gets played a LOT around my house. They're planning on making more games for the balance board, which I'm extremely impressed with.

The originals while at times fun, but overall I found them frustrating, easy to get lost, and nearly impossible without a guide (the getting lost part). That was just my take

A far as the Zelda for the wii, it was originally meant for the gamecube, and was ported to the Wii.

Mainly a PC gamer so 2 titles jump to the front for me. The first is Earl Weaver Baseball. Best baseball simulator evar imo! I logged about 4000 hours on that in Junior High.
Second was System Shock absolutely fabulous game and so many of todays survival horror games owe so much to that game. It was the precursor to BioShock which is another game I really enjoyed but not quite on the all time best list.

For console games I too would have to show props to Link Oot. Great game

While I'm here, does anyone know the antonym to synergy? For when two things together are worse than the sum of their individual parts?

I like synchronicity myself but i believe when it happens between two people it's called serendipity.

Synchronicity is bad ass tune though. Police Yay! As for the antonym for Synergy I don't think there is one so i'll make one up.

Feh...grammar and punctuation is the editor's problem. I don't think Dorothy Parker was all concerned that she left a dangling participle somewhere in her work.

I couldn't stand Star Fox. Wasn't that toad wingman always getting in a spot and you'd have to save him? Besides, at the time there were better flight sims out there I think.

Guess i'll start to break it down then pick an overall winner, i started with PC gaming eons ago

NES: Mario 2, so much different but i absolutely loved it, Mario 3 is a close second and Contra tied with mario 3

SNES: Hands down Zelda: Link To The Past, not only the best SNES game but easily the best Zelda game ever, sorry OoT fans :( I've beat LttP like 30 times. Chrono Trigger and FF3 are very close seconds

N64: Ocarina Of Time not the best zelda but it is the best 64 game, I never owned an N64 but this is the one i remember the best, Star Fox 64 is also up there.

PS1: Final Fantasy 7 easily, but FF9 is really close cause it went back to the roots of FF.

PS2: This is an incredibly tough one so I'll just name some of my favorites in no particular order: God Of War Series, FF12, FF10, Soul Calibur 2 and all the Ratchet and Clank series

PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4, 'nuff said, I loved Ratchet and Clank: Tools Of Destruction though

Xbox: Ninja Gaiden (Sorry halo fans, I f*cking hate that game)

360: Ninja Gaiden II (it used to be Gears of war)

Now for PC, i'll break this one down into genres

RTS: Dune II (f*ck anyone who says otherwise)

Single Player FPS: Doom 2: Hell On Earth (again, f*ck anyone who says otherwise)

Multi-player FPS: Tough one but i chose the original Counter-Strike this was the first game that really got me into online FPS other than with my friend (we would use dial-up and dial eachother to play Warcraft, Duke Nukem 3D and the first Diablo, now that's old school!) I started CS back in Beta 2, Beta 5 was my favorite though. It was also the first game that got me into lanning and clans. I have old memories of getting together with people all over Utah to play this game. TF2 is the first online FPS since CS that i've played this much though

MMO: Final Fantasy XI. First and only MMO, I dabbled in WoW and Lotr Online but they are far too time consuming, I played FFXI for 4 years so i'm pretty much burned out for the rest of my life.

RPG: Ultima VIII: Pagan. ftw ftw ftw

And my overall award goes to:

http://www.arrakis.co.uk/jpg/d2logo.jpg
Dune II!

This is the earliest game i can remember playing constantly and absolutely loving it, it was a really tough choice but this is my personal best, and that's all that matters! It was a toss up between this and Ultima VIII

Honorable Mentions (off the top of my head):

Dungeon Keeper
Myst
Warcraft I&II
Diablo I&II
Half-Life
Command and Conquer
Wolfenstein
Quake 2
Lords of Magic
Legend of Kyrandia
Simcity 2000
Settlers II

My Favorites have to be the whole Civ series. can't get enough of them, and usually play a game once a month just for fun. Doesn't matter which one.

Then comes Lemmings. My favorite puzzle genre game.

And the evilness of EQ/EQ2 which has chewed up years of my gaming activities. Altho it wasn't so much the games as it was the people I met in it.

What is your all time favorite game. This can be anything from 2008 to old school atari. Explain what you loved about it.

Contra, NES.

It was the first game I ever bought my self and it was the first game I ever beat, finished 3 days after I purchased it. Of all the thousands of hours of video games I have logged over the years, I have never forgotten that. You had to work a little bit harder when you couldn't save your game and had to start over every time. It's cheat code for 30 Lives is known by EVERY true gamer on the planet and the game just has a lot of pure staying power IMO. The "Base" section at the end of the levels also gave you that feeling of high-tech with it's use of 3D space in a era dominated by simple side-scrollers.

So i was thinking about this and i was like o man hands down Zelda: A link the the past....but then i kept thinking about it, and i decided it has to be Tales of Symphonia. I mean the game has probably the best storyline i have ever heard, and it takes you a few full 12 hour days of playing to beat...

Although I vehemently disagree with you, I find it amazing that it hasn't been mentioned until page 4.

I got my fill of RTS with C&C. Now they just feel like work.

M.U.L.E. Mail Order Monsters and Racing Destruction Set used to take up a lot of my time back in the day. The Epyx olympic games used to burn through joysticks too.

Pirates! was another awesome game. I played through the reissue a couple years ago but haven't touched it since. The dancing thing was too burdensome, and no ship to land combat. I bought it for the PSP but haven't gone anywhere lately so I haven't touched it.

I remember it as

up up down down left right left right B A select start

Select is only for Two-Player. Single player you didn't need to press Select.

I'd have to go with the original medal of honor for ps1, I dominated my friends at that game, though it took me forever to beat. Favorite RTS would have to be red alert 2. I actually really like twilight princess, that horse combat is so fun.

That makes sense - I usually played it at a friend's house. Games like that were great for two-player fun. I still enjoy joust to this day. It was more about playing with a friend than anything else. Glad to see that we have games like CSS and TF2 to carry on the social aspect.
