I bought these for video games and music making via Reason, FLoops, Abelton, ACID 7 and SF8. Unfortunately ACID 7 is the only music program working with surround sound(that I know off hand, others I have may do it) so really they are just vid game HP's
Looks:
Yeah olive green(also slightly metallic) is not my fav. I dunno, it's not that ugly, most of it is black.
Overall I'd give looks an 8.5/10
Would have gave it more if they had colors to select from or something, at least all black and orange text(theirs)
Sound:
For gaming, these are fantastic. All channels represent the vid game world greatly, are responsive, and not fuzzy/tinny(high frequency) sounding.
IMO the bass sounds good but they have a slight less BOOM than I'd like, but they rumble, my god they rumble(excellent for explosions).
For music listening they sound normal, but for making it it's not the best, mainly because they aren't monitor speakers.
For gaming I give the sound a 9/10
For music making I give em a 8/10
Pros:
- 5.1 SS with a volume control box that has dials for each speaker. Has a mic mute and all volume mute button(mic has colors(on/off) in a central bar on volume box).
- Has an AC adapter(not sucking power off your PSU)
- NO USB, no worries of "Device Not Recognized"/ bad drivers/taking up another port
- Detachable/swiveling/flexible mic
- 12.5' cord
- Goes OVER head, not around back
Cons:
-This is the one I have the most problems with, but it really only pertains to my situation. Because it's not USB it has 4 lines(and an AC adapter plug, the whole power line can be dis/reconnected) and the way my computer is setup on this desk, I had to pull it out(and unplug everything) to constantly change from HP's to normal speakers. Really I haven't bought a splitter for the center and (?forgot) channel lines to just turn HP's off and speakers on)
Otherwise here's ones that you may encounter:
- Central bar in volume box glows blue. Problem is mic on is blue, mic off is red(it uses 2 lights the whole time), and the amount of red(or size of the light) is VERY FAINT making HARD to tell which is which(it gets blue-er). (I'm sure those that I have played many games with know this after telling me they can't hear me.)
- Has an AC adapter(another normal plug being used)
- No volume control for mic, just mute.
- Not USB, really just a loss for laptops(they don't have surround sound usually anyways, right?? Unless you buy a sound card?)
- Coming in at 12oz. I think it's the HEAVIEST HP's I've ever come across.
They aren't heavy on top of your head, but if you have them on your neck..
(Warning- if use the mic and normal speakers by having them around your neck it gets very uncomfortable because of weight. This is how I do it but it SUCKS when you first get them)
- 12.5' cord is constantly doing the twisty/curly-thing(like say xbox/ps2/etc. wrapped up controllers would)
Overall I give this product a 8.5/10.
Some room to improve, but I like them quite a lot!
I may be adding a thing or two later.
