Article says it all, GTA IV sells more in a single day then Halo 3 sold in an entire week. A whole Half Billion after 7 days for GTA IV.

I still say GTAIV outsells both Starcraft and MGS. RTS games don't have as broad an appeal as GTA. Even though MGS has a longer lineage, I don't think it's as popular as GTAIV. Furthermore, MGS is PS3 only title and GTA is cross platform (eventually will make it to PC too); so might be an apples to oranges comparison. I might be wrong, we'll see in a few months.

MSG4 will do good, and it's the first title to make me even consider a PS3, but it will not come even close to a Half Billion in sales in it's first 7 days. It will have trouble even coming close to Halo 3's 300 first week haul. Star Craft 2 will be huge but we all know PC only titles can't compete with console games in sales numbers.

However, I do believe Starcraft 2 will be the highest selling game of all time. After all, it's Blizzard, it's the sequel to the greatest RTS ever created, and it's the only RTS game that actually made huge strides in popular culture, especially in Korea. I mean, you never heard about C&C: Red Alert in the media (even though I think it's the second best RTS of all time).

StarCraft 2 may become the biggest game ever, but never in the super short amount of time that GTA IV has. StarCraft is really popular over in Asia but I seriously doubt Blizzard will have enough copies on the shelf to hit a half billion in sales $ in just a week. Microsoft backs big games like GTA IV with a ass load of money up front so they can make sure there are enough copies for people to buy so they can hit these huge numbers. Blizzard is a rich company too, but not MS rich. Good PC games do well, it just takes them a bit longer.
I hope games like MGS4 and StarCraft 2 do really well. I am just a Halo Hater and felt like bragging a little. I also don't like the PS3 but MSG4 does look so good that I'd spend the extra $500 to get a system just to play it instead of waiting the year for it to come to 360, along with bonus content, and we all know it will not matter what Hideo says. He's said "Play Station only" in the past and that always changes. How can he resist the 6 million plus 360 owners that will be over 7 million by next year.

GTA4- 2 systems. probably pc later, doesn't count.
MGS4- 1 sytem. probably some side psp thing as well.
SC 2- pc/mac 1 or 2?
GTA4 has the most all around things/themes/elements/etc. to attract almost anyone from anycertain "favorite" genre of theirs.
GTA4 WINS.
well gta4 has an advantage seein how it was launched on 2 systems

I'd love to find the numbers but I'd really surprised if the PS3 portion of the GTA IV sales numbers were over $100 million. Even if they hit the $100 million mark on the PS3 that still means GTA IV made $100 million more on the 360 alone then Halo 3 did.
As far as the capacity limits on the 360, yes it would take several discs with reduced graphics to fit on a normal DVD but does anyone really think MS will let the 360 continue with out High Def game play? They rushed the 360 on to the market in order to be the only one out there. Sony waited to build High Def content into the system and it's price really hurt them. High Def tech has dropped in price in the few years the 360 has been out and now MS can cash in again by adding it to their system for way less then it cost Sony.
Blu-Ray has been on the market long enough that Sony and Disney have lost their exclusive rights to it. Developers and other companies just pay the royalties or what ever for using the Patented technology. When Blu-Ray first came out, and Sony and Disney held exclusive rights, they forbid companies from producing Porn DVD's on Blu-Ray. That's all changed since anyone can use the technology now. MS backed HD-DVD but never committed to it 100% and now they can get all the benefits of Blu-Ray with out having to spend a dime on developing the technology.

I was never really into Halo :/ GTA/MGS/SC are pretty well on my play list. I'll prob get around playing to each recent or future title whenever im able.

Well, rumor mills have the 360 with a BluRay by Fall. MS keeps denying, but you're right. I doubt they'll keep it "low-def" for long.
Funny about the second part of what you said; notice how the price of BluRay players went UP after HD-DVD died?

I'd like to get my hands on MGS4, but I really don't feel like wasting my money on the PS3. There's just simply not much point, in my opinion, to get it just for that -- I'll just have to mooch someone else's and go from there. That, and I rarely play console games asides from fighting games & RPGs -- FPS's != Console.
Also, Starcraft II yuo giev??? I got to try it out at Gencon in Indiana last year, looked hella tight and surprisingly works decently well on lower-grade PCs too!

If you skip the cut scenes there is only 6 minutes of game play in a MGS game....

Even so, the gameplay is still incredibly fun and I certainly had a blast playing MGS
My favorite is MGS3, and people scream at me saying "UR DOIN IT RONG"

SC1 was the shizzle. Loved the blatant movie references (Aliens, Robocop). Siege Tanks using bounding-overwatch (Ganwen should know what I'm talking about there) FTW.

SC2 WILL win. You have no idea what S. Korea is capable of.

Korea, and the rest of Asia, gets most their stuff bootleg. SC2 may end up with more players world wide but not actaully make as much money. SC is a better multi-player game anyways. The mp on GTA IV is fun but not something I'd play every day.

Ok, let's make this interesting. If Star Craft 2 makes more money then GTA IV in it's first week of sales I will donate $10 to the Stompfest Server Fund. That is a general donation on top of any Reserved Slot you already pay for. For everyone who wants to take me up on that bet, each of you has to donate $10 of your own. Posting which side of the bet you are on is proof of your pledge to donate. So that means anyone who agrees with me can throw their $10 in on the side of GTA IV. Anyone who backs out later can be punished by Eclypse or someone.
The losing side can be given something like two weeks after the numbers have been released to make their donations just incase anyone needs to wait for a pay check or something. Either way one side gets the bragging rights and we will all be helping the community.

Jmaster, your prediction is pretty loaded there. You make no mention of sales by platform, and GTA4 was released for damn near everything. SC2 is only being released for PCs/Macs.

GTA IV was only released on 360 and PS3 so far, PC comes later. I refere to first week sales so that will not include the PC sales numbers for GTA IV. I have been told that SC2 will out sell GTA IV no matter what so I thought it would be fun to put some money on it. Timmah, you and I both know PC/MAC games don't do as well in sales numbers then Console games do but some people think SC2 will be the game to do it. I have already said the SC2 will eventually have more on-line players just because it's that kind of game but it will never hit $500 Million in one week. Being released on PC and MAC is actaully a lot like being released on 360 and PS3. Most people who own one swear by it and hate the other guys, 360 VS PS3 owners just like PC VS MAC owners. Titles released on both do better on the 360/PC then they do on PS3/MAC.

if a game is released on both the 360 and PS3, I get it on the PS3.
I have a first gen 360. It sounds worse then my computer when playing games on it, especially Mass Effect and the like. (im talking loud as hell).
Playing extended length games, Oblivion/Mass Effect it will stop working and say the DVD Cannot be read, please go insert a DVD that will work. (I open the DVDRom and close it, its fine again for a while)
On the other hand, my PS3 is so damn quiet I cant even hear it when its playing graphics heavy games.
In the end, I kinda cant wait for my 360 to get a RRoD (course I havnt even turned on my 360 in 3 months) so that they can upgrade it to a newer gen. because the hardware is total crap
What does this have to do with GTA4? Nothing much... but thats the system Ill buy the game on when it drops in price at Gamestop or EBgames :)

Well, just went to Walmart and gave them my xbox360 CoD4, never opened it. Brother bought it for me for xmass, now I have GTA4 for PS3.
Guess Ill give it a try this weekend

The problem is gamin PC's require either a lot of money to buy one pre-built or they require someone to put in the time to learn how to build one and the time to do all the research to find the bes prices. Even then, you can get a 360 for $350 and can play games in full 1080p compared to the $500 or more it's going to cost for even a basic new gaming rig with a nice monitor. I wouldn't call console's the Poorman's gaming PC, especially since Consoles mop the floor with PC's in game sales. I may have spent more on my current computer, but I have spent more money on my consoles and console games. With my 360 alone I have spent more on games, but if you go back all the way to my Atari I could not even count the thousands upon thousands of dollars I have spent over the years.
