The City of Eastlake, Ohio, where I live, decided today would be a good day to ruin summer for some of my friends and many bmx riders from across not only the country but the world. These kids spent like 7 or so years of hard work to build these trails up from nothing, with no heavy machinery. Just shovels and sweat. People who have competed in and won x-games and gravity games have come and ridden these trails. I have seen nothing like it in my life. ONE PERSON COMPLAINED (most likely some busybody housewife nosing in other peoples business because she has no control over her existence or lack thereof) and it was bulldozed away in just a few hours.

Video taken last year:

This is a link to the piece on Fox 8 Cleveland this evening:

My heart goes out to these guys, just thought I'd post on it for anyone else who rides.

Maybe it's for the best; now the people of Ohio can go back to their main hobby, drinking.

way to keep kids on drugs / at home instead of give them a good, honest hobby that actually makes them fit.

And they use the excuse that they have the skate park avalable. That is true as of right now, but they didn't allow bikes in for the first 10 or so years it was open. And it hasn't been around much longer than that.

It made the local paper here today. The city got their teeth kicked in pretty good by the press for this at least. They didn't condone it but they gave the effort the coverage it deserved.

I spent a lot of time riding both BMX and street freestyle coming up... What a load of crap... If they were not building anything there, simply fence it in and charged 5 bucks for a card that said you(Your parents) had already signed the waiver. Show the card, ride all you want, forever...

I was in tears when construction came through and trashed our trails out near schaumburg in the mid 80's.

Furthermore, I have seen playground equipment that is more dangerous, and 10 year olds get to climb on the outside of the rails of a 15-18 ft high mega play complex.

That trail is like 5x than what i've been exposed to. A friend just randomly decided to build a few jumps in his backyard. Now pretty much the entire town uses it. Town decided to add a little skate park, and friend decided to take his creation down.

IF someone managed to get injured, then well they would be the one held responsible. On this day and age, suing is considered the hottest thing to do, and its stupid. I believe if the city didn't want the trail to exist than they should've stopped it before it began. Waiting over 11 years to do while a person puts amazing effort into making a masterpiece is FUBAR.
