Many people dont like pyro because they feel that it is too hard of a class to play. It is a different class that rewuires a different play style than the run-and-gun style of soldier or demo. Hear is some useful advice that I feel can help any new pyro suceed in battle.

1. The lack of effective mid-long range weaponry means that under no circumstances should you attempt to run at an enemy from far away.

2. Do not chase a demoman with the flamethrower, they'll set down a trail of stickies to blow you up.

3. Be safe, use a shotgun to finish off enemies out of range of the flamethrower.

4. Attack from the sides and from behind. This will let you get in close while taking a minimum of damage. Never stop moving, it will throw your burning enemies into confusion.

5. Always attack from a direction least expected. Large group coming across the bridge in 2fort? Dont wait inside the door, jump off the battlements or go through their sewers and attack from behind.

6. You are 5000 times deadlier with a medic.

7. When facing medic combos, always rush past the first enemy and attack the medic. Forcing them to use an uber far from your base/cp is worth getting killed.

8. You are the most devestating class when ubered, make sure your medics understand that.

9. When you see a sniper aiming at you, throw up some flames to keep them from getting a headshot.

10. A pyro can take out a level 1/2/and sometimes 3 sentry by strafing around it, and the flames will often kill the engi before he can repair it until it kills you.

Any more advice is welcome. Pyro is a really fun class to play when played right.

circle strafing, perfect it.
you're fast, use it to your advantage but do not try and "get close" head on.
team up with other pyros.
and you're on spy check duty if necessary.

The axe is your friend. If you are behind an enemy axe him a question and then answer it with a flame. Quick switching between axe/flame and shotgun/flame is deadly. Also, attacking from the top is good on maps that allow it.
