I can't get seem to get this to work. I'll toss my specs.

Using a windows XP box. My router is a u-verse router. wired connection from both 360 and computer.

I've tried disabling firewall.. opening all ports to my computer on the router. Tried using both Zune and WMP11.

I just want to play some of the movies I got at the LAN from my computer, to my 360 using my media player. i've done the thing where you go thru options, and enable sharing to the 360.. it's checked and ready.

When I do a connection test, it gets to the step where it's initializing the pc, and it fails.. I do use my 360 often on Live.

if anymore information is needed, let me know. I've never had this much trouble enabling this, which is why I think it maybe the router. but I can't be sure.

You have an AT&T u-verse router? I don't think they actually put you on a lan and just share interbutts.

it just started working.. several restarts, and settings tweaked.. i moved a few apps over.. i thought xbox would do it, but I guess the windowsX ports are where it's at. it's working now.

In order to do all this you need XP Media Center Edition or any version of Vista besides Basic or Business editions. XP Home and XP Professional do not include Media Center and you can not get it as a seperate program. Reason you need this is the 360 has Media Center on board and it needs to communicate with the Media Center on your PC. Media Center is more then just WMP and only comes with specific versions of Windows.

In addition to Media Center you have to download and install Media Center Extender Manager from http://www.microsoft.com and install it on your computer. With the computer and 360 on the same network Media Center Extender Manager will walk you step by step through connecting your PC and 360 together. MCEM monitors your systems available resources while you are Streaming content to the 360.

You can transfer files between the to using your router with out Media Center but can not Stream movies like you are wanting if you don't have it. Also, you can only play WMV and Mpeg video files. Real Player, AVI and Quicktime movies will not work. When I got my current computer a year and a half ago I got XP Media Center edition for this exact reason as I already had a 360. I do regret it as Media Center is useless IMO and the idea of streaming videos through my 360 got old fast.

OR you coudl buy an old xbox and mod it and use XBMC which has to be the best program ever made
