For some reason when I am at school using my lappy and their wireless i can't open steam. I have a feeling it has to do with the firewall that they have but I am not sure. I plan on visiting their tech lab and seeing if they can fix it, but was hoping someone could throw some advice at me first as to something else that could be causing it.
Baiscally I open steam and it says "steam updating" with the little status bar under it. The bar never gets anywhere, and sometimes it gets past that and says "logining on id *****" then it asks if i want to work offline or retry loggin on....
Anyone, ideas? Saucey has been nice maybe you can fix it :D I would like to play tf2 in my bio 102 class :P

I know at my school you need a VPN client to connect and play games using wireless interwebz
guessing not high school? lol sry not sure how old you are lol .... but most likely do to firewall issue..... i dotn really know much about how steam works but they proly block the port that is uses not sure if you can change ports on steam or just use a proxy who knows maybe they can open it up.....

I'm guessing it's something to do with ports being blocked, at least, that would be my guess. I had issues at my campus, though a friend of mine just fiddled with the router settings (Incompetent administrators forgot to change the default admin account / password). I'd say make an inquiry to your Networking department to look into it.

in browser type 192.168.1.1 or close gateway maybe you can get into the router with default admin / admin or administrator / admin or admin / password.
make your ports and hope you dont get caught if you happen to get in. :)

ssshh don't get her in trouble :P. I did that with my college's network and was found within the hour, though they found it rather funny in retrospect. Poor Korean system administrator was hella confused when he couldn't login the next day too. ;)
