i use to host small lans (8-12 ppl) once a month when i lived in terre haute. i'd just get some buddies that worked for me together on a sunday night and game till 2-3am. i'm looking to do the same up here in indy, however, i dont have a venue like i did in terre haute. i'd like to keep about the same size, though going up to 20 ppl would possible.

please let me know if you're interested in helping and/or participating in such an endeavor. keep in mind that we'll need to consider power, internet and tables.

I'd obviously be down with helping as I've been talking with you about it for a while. just have to find a place to do it.

I'd be interested, I don't have the space to host though.

it'll probably be the usual suspects... UT family, COD family, HL2 and all of its offspring, etc... FPS's are usually more popular and easier to get people into and its always worked well for my lan's before.

i'm sure we can work out the networking stuff, but its going to be the venue that will cause the problem. i thought about using a clubhouse at an apartment complex cause usually they'll let tenants rent those for free or a very minimal charge. another idea is that if someone has a garage they'd be willing to somewhat clean up, that would also work.

its been a year since i've done one of these small lans and i miss the random sporadic fun that they provide. as you get older work gets more time consuming and our lives just generally get busier. its nice to have one night a month to get together with some peeps and shoot each other until your mind goes numb.

that is a great idea.. ill check with my apartment complex... i live downtown (3 blocks off the circle) only thing is the party room is kinda fancy shmancy, has nice furniture and a grand piano in it so im not sure if they would be down or not

I have a club house at my condo too. It is $50 to rent. That is the only place I know of. I also can bring a server and some network equipment.

i'd like to see a 30-50 person event every other month here in Indy area. A Stompfest Light lol oo that just made me thirsty.

But yeah, just an idea there.

I will help out anyway I can!

Power is pretty simple you jsut need good high gage ext. cords and for about a 20 man lan you would only need 4 20 amp breakers you coudl get 4 ext witht the 3 plugs on the end and put 3 power strip on there.2 people per strip that woudl be more then enough power for the comptuers........ so 4 3 pkug cables 12 6 plug power strips for a total of 24 people that woudl be the simplest and cheepest way to do it

awesome! 30 would probably be a little much as that gets more into renting an actual venue which gets expensive and time consuming. this needs to be something that can be set up in an hour or less and torn down in about the same time.

fohdeesha has offered up his basement and it looks like we should be able to get 5-6 tables in there (10-12 ppl). its in carmel which isnt bad for me, though i was hoping to get something more centralized (between castleton and downtown) but beggers cant be choosers.

THUMP3r, how large is that room? where do you live at?

Its $50 to rent the place. But it is HUGE. there is a top floor and a bottom floor. Max capacity is like 100 or so.

Check back with me after 5/31. My renters are leaving my townhome... which would actually be an entire unoccupied house. 15 minutes from Great America near Gurnee, IL. Assuming I do not get new tenants right away.

sunday? EW...Saturday?

sunday? EW...Saturday?

the reason why i chose sunday is because i work retail, and when you work retail its almost guaranteed that you'll close saturday night, which means not leaving work till 10:30-11. by time you get home, get packed up, and get to the place and set up its well past midnight, almost 1, and then you have to start thinking about when you're gonna leave so you can work the next morning.

sunday is the easiest day of the week cause if you close, its only until 7:30, which means that once all that stuff i mentioned is done, you can probably start gaming by 9 or 10.

i realize that not everyone works retail but its always been my experience that sunday nights are just easier to get everyone together because every other night of the week is usually taken up by work, family, or some other event. once we figure out where this is going to be at and who all is going to be involved, we may pick a different night.

alright folks, progress is being made! i just closed on a house last friday which is giving me a nice 2 car garage to work with for some lan action :-)

i need to have more outlets ran, but that may be getting done this weekend. as soon as that's done we'll be ready to rock as long as we can still obtain tables and the necessary networking equiment (fohdeesha?)

if you're in the indy area and are still interested, please drop me a pm and let me know so i can start accumulating info and hopefully plan something for november.

oh, and since my job situation has changed i'll probably be changing the night to saturday night and start somewhere around 8p or 9p and go till whenever.

location-wise we're looking at the east side of town... 56th and german church roughly.

i guess if i were running a bunch of ibm servers that might work but i think i'm going to just add 4 more outlets with 20amp a piece. should allow for 4 computers on each outlet with a little room to spare.

now i just need enough table space for 16 people and a switch to support it all...
