Dear Stompfest,

I’ve decided to take action against cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in my community. Relay For Life® is about celebration, remembrance, and hope. By participating, I am honoring cancer survivors, paying tribute to the lives we've lost to the disease, and raising money to help fight it.

Please help support me in this important cause by making a donation. It is faster and easier than ever to support me by making a secure, tax-deductible donation online using the link below. If you would prefer, you can send your contribution to the mailing address listed below.

Whatever you can give will help - it all adds up! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Sincerely,

Ryan Gavlas

Ok, you're set. Sorry I didn't help out sooner.

Mousey, I really, really, hope you're kidding. I don't know you that well so I can't read your tone. Please tell me you're not this callous. It's fine to not donate, but I hope your wording is tongue-in-cheek.

Know how I started playing TF2? I had a lot of downtime from my chemo treatments. Last summer I started having trouble breathing. It got to the point where I couldn't wash my hair without getting totally out of breath. CAT scans revealed a 10x11cm tumor in my Carina shutting off my air. One lung was completely shut off and I was using 1/3 of my other lung. I never looked at my scans (not yet) but my wife tells me it looked like I was breathing through a pinhole. Without immediately starting treatment I probably would have suffocated in a week.

Six chemo treatments and 20 radiation sessions later I'm doing good - I can breathe just fine, but it takes awhile for all the chemicals to clear out and your body to get back to normal. I had no stamina and slept for about 12 hours a day for awhile. I usually read a lot, but the treatments really lowered my cognitive ability. With so little brainpower and energy, and the need to do something, I started playing TF2. It kept me busy and gave me something interactive to do. A bonus was when I found Stompfest and started to get to know people. It gave me a needed social outlet, since I really wasn't up to going out much.

I have a scan on Tuesday to see how things are going. No one expects any bad news since I feel much better, but I still haven't heard the magic 'remission' word from my Oncologist. Until then I won't look at my scan to see what I was up against.

I used to put in a lot of hours on Stompfest, but since I'm getting back to form I find myself tending to all those things I put on hold during my illness. I just can't seem to find the same amount of time for playing these days. Guess I'll take this time to say thanks to everyone for being such a positive community.

damn dude, thanks for the donation. I hope your scans are clear and you're in the good for the rest of your life.

wow I really hope the treatment worked for ya. It's understandable that you have things to do other than TF2. Go have fun :) You beat the final boss. No go out and enjoy yourself :)
