Anyone looking into getting/playing this? I applied for beta but haven't got in yet. First "mature" rated MMO. From what I've seen so far it looks pretty fek cool.

"1.6 Will there be a subscription fee to play?
Yes, there will be a monthly subscription fee. While the final subscription fee has not been announced, it will likely follow industry standards. The first 30 days of gameplay will come free when you purchase the retail box."

sigh...crap. If all hope fails I hope a private server comes in the future. I played WoW on a private server and progressed so fast I got bored of it :/

Any good MMO will have a subscription. AoC looks good, but the melee controls look very cumbersome.

It's definitely made to be more involved but they didn't want it to be a button masher. One of the videos I saw showed them using a 360 controller for all the combat and it made much more sence why they designed the controls like that. I'll see if I can dig up the vid.

Good video showing the combat in more detail.

Wow, those totally look like console controls.
Looks pretty cool. Wonder how well it would work to plug the ole PS2 controller into the PC and play... hrm....

I would think it would work about the same.

on top of all that, the game play is awful and the graphics look circa 1998.

I'm considering buying it, I just don't know if I have the time for 15 bucks a month to justify it. I'll probably end up waiting to see how people like it, content expansion, etc and buy it in a few months after summer and nice weather is over
I play on the Deathwhisper server as a Priest of Mitra, name is Phobetor.
This game is very good so far from what I have been playing, I only tried PvP once and it is pretty balanced~ other than the level 20's killing the level 13's. The attack system really isn't that hard at all because most classes get spells to use instead. HOWEVER there are also certain moves, called Combo moves wich you do use the little arrows in.
To be honest, I thought this game was going to be completely horrible, but it is pretty amazing so far. Def wont go back to WoW.
But, I will only be playing this only until Warhammer Open Beta.

yup straight beats wow so far im having lots of fun i have a level 18 barbarian on Doomsayer and a level 9 Tempest of set on the same server if anyone else wants to come play hit me up my name is Keios
Another Update: This game (on PvP servers) currently at the moment is
definitely NOT for solo'ing once you get like 18+.
It's all just a bunch of douchebags level 25 and up in the level 20 zone camping the areas where the spawnpoints are and whatnot.
However. If you have a group of friends to actually play with I strongly advise it, because the nighttime quests (solo-only) can get boring cause there is nobody else.
Basically ATM I'm just QQ'ing because my computer cannot load AoC fast enough for me to actually fight back~ I just get owned right when I log in.
...But that is the beauty of a PvP game

I don't believe in playing any game that costs money beyond the original content purchase, ie: dvd/cd.
All these subscription/micrtransaction games make it so they just keep sappin that money out you while you play.
You bought the 50$ game and it's 2-3 small expansion sets for 20-30$ each and then you have to pay to play?
I understand server/game running costs, but hey, Valve doesn't charge us to play any of it's games for free.
Another reason, and not due to gameplay, I hate RPG's.
The only game I want to see this year is Left4Dead.

That's because even Valve knows that they can't run a server with over 100 player slots using their terrible *^#$*^#$*^#$*^#$ing server code! That's why they let other people host it, thus preventing them from charging by the month. They also know that since they don't get monthly subscription plans they can claim to fix problems, but not actually fix them. Spy frontstabs and multicore support, anyone? They already have your money, so what do they care! :P

I usually wait for a chance for some random team or person to make a private server.
