Well, it's nice the 9 series is released. Still it's specifications still do not match up to a 3870.
HD3870 vs GeForce 9600
Its core: Over 800. Geforce 9600 is trying to break 700
its memory: Over 2000. The 9600 is almost there, but not quite
Memory type: GDDR4. GeForce failed to get over the GDDR3 years. Come on Nvidia, GDDR3 is old technology.
SPU: 3 times what the 9600 has. (320vs64. lol wtf?)
Its price: more expensive by appx20$
D3D/GL: Tied.
its flaw: Catalyst Drivers. Ewwwwww. AMD/ATi needs to make art out of that trash, or dispose of it.
Its plus: An ATi card promotes game developers to use their hardware for rendering/etc.
Who wins? Nvidia. biggest fan boy group ever.
I hear the 9 series for geforce will feature the aegia PPU. Thats a plus, yet to be seen though.
I am actually not a fan of ATi cards, I am only on my 2nd one I've ever owned. But I am not a fan of Nvidia cards either. ATi has proven themselfs to be durable long lasting cards. I do run into many problems using the Catalyst drivers, and the omega drivers just cause me to BSOD with an infinite loop error. Sounds like a coding issue. I had an Nvidia card as far back as the first AGP computer I ever had, which is an NVidia TNT2 Riva 32MB. Then I had a Nvidia card up till the Failure Xtremes (FX series), then I started to invest in ATi. I have a ATi9200 128MB AGP GPU still lying around. Withstood over 2 years of constant overclocking, lost a capacitor (I gotta sodder that back on one day), and still runs perfectly. But since it lost one of the capacitors, it does run about 10-20fps slower in source. (I averaged 20-30 with med settings with that card)

the 9600gt outperforms the 3870 overall and completely pwns any ati card in openGL based software, ie Doom 3 Quake 4 based games.

Sweet, who wants to give the TWL captain their old 8800?
Seriously, I'm running a single 7900gt here, if anyone wants to hook iron lung up on the cheap... let me know.
