So my mic was working fine with another PC. I got a new PC and now the volume is stuck at super low to where noone can hear me. All of my mic settings are pumped up to full power and I'm not sure what else to do. Can someone give me some tips on how I might up the mic volume other than yelling?

Make sure your in-game mic settings are all the way turned up.

Double click your volume icon in your taskbar, click Options>Properties, click Recording, make sure "Microphone" is checked and click okay.

Make sure the volume slider is all the way up. Click Options and make sure "Advanced Controls" is checked, then click Advanced under Microphone and make sure "Mic Boost" is checked (if it's there).

Thats all I can think of.

If its where they can't hear you at all and you have done the things above then try:

Control Panel>Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices> Sound and Audio Devices (icon)>Voice tab> click test hardware

Sometimes you need to do this if you unplug the mic plug from your computer; mainly the front panel.

If you've done all the above, make sure your mic volume on your headphone/mic volume thing on your cord is turned up :)

A way to test your mic volume is if you have ventrillo, go to setup and click "monitor" in the lower left and talk into it. If what i said above is done right, and everything all others said is done right, your numbers should vary by 50 when you talk and don't on monitoring.

Dit - been there, done all that.

Enlightened - the mic is working, just very low compared to what it should be.

Prosthetics - only volume control on the actual headset is for the headphones, the mic just has a mute/unmute and it's not muted. I just downloaded ventrilo and did the test and it definately fluctuates from 0-2 when not talking and usually 50-140 while talking, sometimes spiking at 200.

Edited to add, I was just experimenting with my TF2 settings, and it turns out that I had to turn Mic Boost to OFF in order to get an acceptable audible level.

Only in TF2, and after that session of the game it reverted back to its normal suckage and I haven't been able to get the volume up to an acceptable level since. Taking home a different mic tonight to see what happens.

I bought a Cyber Acoustics mic from Office Depot for 8$ and it works great for a mic suggestion.

I didn't play much last night and when I did didn't speak because I was waiting to suprise Halfwit. But it definately sounded different on my in game mic test.
