i have windows vista, and i got some new ram.

Vista is only recongizing 3 out of 6gb of ram.

is this a big problem vista.

but i do admit, 3 is better then 2 gb of ram. so much faster.

I think this is normal considering that on computer system requirements it has something like this.
"1 gb of ram (2 gb for vista)"

Don't take my word for it, but thats what im thinkin.

basicly, its like this

32 bit operating systems i.e XP, & Vista will only see 3 gigs of memory. max. its just a limitation of being 32 bit.

to take advantage of 3 gigs + you need to use a operating system that is 64 bit. I.E XP 64, vista 64 and so on.

no work arounds or anything. its either or. honestly, i wouldnt run vista with only 1 gig of memory. even the striped down home edition.

i run viusta ultimate, and honestly, you need atleast 2 gigs to run vista properly, any version. also the fact vista is still buggy, and is bloated as hell, but so was XP when it first came out.

if you want to access more than 3.5 gigs in vista you have to have a 64bit operating system as stated above. I just stuck with 32bit :P

i know the article is kinda old, but i think that unless you go 64 bit your stuck with 4gb total addressable space. meaning your gfx card and other add in cards will take up some of that space as well. might as well migrate to a 64 bit version of vista.

heres a list of all the vista versions with their memory limits. my plan is eventually a xp pro 32bit and vista 64bit dual boot. just so both are at my fingertips in case of compatibility issues.

some food for thought.

no, they won't release a fix for this. It's just a limitation of ALL 32 bit OSes.

There may actually be a work around to get all of your ram. The reason why 32 bit os's only pick up 3 gigs of ram because there is not enough physical address space with 32 bit. Other devices like video cards, sound card and network cards have to share the physical address space. I know for a fact the there is a work around for 32 bit XP. Google PAE aka physical address extension, this may also work in Vista. Another thing to keep in mind is memory can also be limited at the hardware level, motherboards have memory restrictions, check it.
