So just some quick thoughts on these two games. I downloaded and installed HL2E2 on the weekend (pc, via steam), and picked up rainbowsix 3 vegas (xbox 360) monday night, and played both for a bit over the last couple days.
Initial comments on episode 2 - pretty cool, i must say. After the first few minutes and talking to alex's dad and other scientists, we seem to get a hint of something 'very bad' happening (doesn't it always?) in the game, where evil doers are plotting evil plans. If you've played it yet, and made it to the underground cavern/base, and "fought with the 2 guys", then you know that it's also pretty fast paced. damn tunnel warning lights! but i will say, it was good fun. That's about as far as I've made it so far, and I will be continuing those missions.
I got a chance to play some coop r6-3 vegas last night as well. I did try the pc version of the game last spring, and made it probably in about 10 missions. Coop play is much more fun, I will say, talking through strategy, approach, and tactics with another player. Having one guy stay back with a sniper rifle covering you as you approach, gives a good feel for how it may be done in the real situations. Though, at least in this game, when you get hit, you heal fairly quickly - i doubt that happens in real life :)
One thing I did notice between pc and 360 play - in episode 2, the npc badbuys are MUCH more intelligent than in vegas. I'm not sure if this is an inherent property of pc vs. xbox gameplay/ai engine, but I do know that the pc version of vegas, the bad guys acted much the same way - not very intelligently. In episode2, the npcs would hide, jump out to shoot, and even get around behind me. quite annoying, i must say, but much more immersive in the game. I'll probably try to increase the skill/difficulty level on vegas to see if we can make it harder.
anyways, just thought i would toss out some quick comments. Once I finish the 2 games, I'll post some more thoughts (spoiler-free, if possible) as to how they were. Also, if anyone's interested in some 360 play, my live gamertag is 'dwightery'. I've currently got halo3, forza2, gears of war and r6 vegas. You can reach me on msn or irc, if you're interested in a game. I've also been waiting for jokerz (*pokes*) to get the css server updated, looking forward to some more css fun!
