A Cal Team?

I think this would be very fun to have for cal season-9, and theres no doubt there are really good players on the server to put together a decent team. It'd also be a good way to get our name out to the community and have more people join =). Just throughing the idea out there for your opinions

no offense but most the "good" players on this server will amount to a decent cal-o team. (ppl like diM. are already in a clan) so what i'm saying is, us left overs will be at most making a semi-decent cal-o team, meaning we're gonna suck.

problem #2. we tried back on mercnet to make a cal team but ppl in pubs generally don't like to dedicate time to practice. although some players here have some nice skill, their strats are all pub strats and won't work well in 5v5 matches (for the most part). there will be some serious dedication and practice invloved in a cal team. i'm just pointing it out so all these ppl that say "sign me up!" know what they're getting into. when i was in cal i had to go thru practice after practice, scrim after scrim (bout 5-8/day avg), just to be a substitute.

sloppy if ur not planning on making a serious cal team then i suggest you not. nothing worse than having a team full of wise-ass-pub-allstars making a fool of themselves with our tag on it. if your gonna make a cal team using stompfest's name then i hope it's at least looks and acts respectable. we don't have to win but ppl need to learn to act.

pretty much for the most part guys, unless you like the challange of cal, a cal team is not fun for most pub all stars. think it through guys. i'd hate to see another MN cal team.

if you guys need help with some strats or some training on basic shit and what not you can ask me. i'm not good but i do know some things and i'm actually willing to help out.

Trust me one i know what your saying the cal team i was on would never practice and weren't dedicated at all. It was really stupid. I could care less if we win we just need to practice and be organized. I've played with cal-o/im so i know my way around. You can turn pubstars into decent cal players by just teaching them the basics. Such as not peeking, following the strat, etc etc. If we got 8 players that were really dedicated to it then it would be a fun season.

CAL... Those days are over for me. College, those were the evenings for me, and this is back years ago. Now I wish I had certain time off so I can fart around playing CS when I want. That and the fact that my reaction speed and playing ability vanquished with time. Not to mention Source is a totally different game than the original. I'll stick to random server drop-ins and playing for 3 hours when I have the time to. :D That would be fun to do something like that again, I'd like to see you guys do it, but I'd have to watch from the sideline. Good idea for the super-active and limitless time people. *cough* Sryden *cough* <3 you.

i used to scrim with a cal O team, they weren't that bad and it was fun. i wanna start scrimming a lot.

some more things ppl should know:

1) this will be a new team so your gonna be in CAL O, easy cal. don't worry bout your skills so much.

2) you'll have to attend practices and listen and learn strats, no kamikaze style probably.

3) learn cal rules. in cal there are rules like demoing urself and settings and what not. also map exploits that can and can't be done. etc.

4) if you suck right now, it's ok. pubin and cal is very different. you might suck in pubs but do well in teamplay, it all depends. also you will be trained more or less. bad habbits will be broken and good ones formed.

5) you'll prob scrim other teams hence boosting your skill. i suggest to scrim lots and scrim often. it's also a lot of fun <(^_^<).

6) lastly, just have fun and enjoy it but if your gonna play under the stomfest name then i prefer you act decently via manners and such. it's not a big deal if we get swept (highly doubt it, some cal o teams are VERY VERY bad). if anything is this an experience for those that have never done it and for those that have it's quite nostalgic (for some a nightmare LOL). i'm all for this idea and hope for the best to the team.

If any of you guys (although i'm not the best to ask) need help in learning how to shoot, strafe well, aim, or some strats i can help if needed. I'm willing to teach all i know if interested. i'm fairly decent with the ak/m4, deagle, awp (not really cal lvl but who cares), standart pistol. i know strats for dust2, aztec (like they'll play that), train, and various other maps. pretty much all we need is a voice com system (in game isn't prefered and i have a vent server anyways <(^_^<) ) and an empty server. do we still have the chicago server up with admin updated? that would be nice.

One is very correct. Most of us guys who are just about 1:1 ratio would probably work extremely well in team play. I could tell ChaosLord, Dwight, Torrin, Myself and some others would be great team players. They have excellent mic and team skills. This is the way it used to work for us back in earlier 2000's. It seems like I don't have any of them skills now, but when it comes down to that type of team game play, everything changes. Again, I'd love to join you, but I'm on an extremely tight schedule right now. If it matches my times, I'd love to do that.

I am pretty busy, I would not mind giving it a try. I like team play and go mic use. Dwight is AWESOME on the mic and Thundergod are also very good team mic player.

i really don't mind helping out and sharing knowledge but i do expect discipline. one thing very important about cal is ur mic usage (probably why i hate mic spammers so much). mainly, the ONLY person talking is the leader. everyone shuts up and answers only when asked or when ur stating situations. but i don't think it's that big a problem really. once you get this team stuff working it all goes soo smoothly. also, in my experience, once you go team play everything else like pubin is just not as much fun. it's a very very good experience if you have a good team (discipline and maturity wise and not actual skill) up and running. well lets get those PM's going to sloppy so he can put together a team. CAL's 5v5 so i'm not sure but i'd think that sloppy would want around 6-8 guys on the team allowing for rotation or just incase situations. i want you guys to know that SF has decided to back you guys, so make it good and represent us well. <(^_^<). I do have a vent server if needed although i'd rather you not use it (my brothers really) but if you REALLY need one I can give out the info or maybe even use while we get one. just send tell to me for whatever.

Now the main thing im concerned with at this point is those of you wanting to "scrim for fun" and those of you who are wanting to really dedicate your time to scrim and really work on going Cal. I'm not willing to cater to those of you for the "just for fun" aspect, Im sure if you pub you guys can find a few other like minded "for fun" to scrim with ya no problems. Now for those of you wanting to be dedicated as far as im reading you guys want to use vent, we have a TS server already up but it seems majority rules and I dont mind using vent so if we could have E setup us a dedicated vent server it would be great and have it posted here please.

Now in order to fully get things rolling we really need ALL of you to be on vent EVERYTIME your on CSS so we know exactly how many we have to work with as far as scrims go. I know this seems stupid but i and im sure sloppy doesnt wanna come hunt you down in a game. Also If we're gonna have a roster of about 10-15 theres one thing you all need to be aware of and that is your not always gonna be playing in the current scrim or match, so dont wet your panties you'll get your shot to be rambo and save the day.

Ok now first things first, the SF tag for Cal is as follows, -ګƒ- which in turn is placed at the end of your name, Im sure most of you've seen the tag already on the stompfest server, now not just anyone should be throwing this tag on, I think we should start holding tryouts and such to see who is up to par in joining, otherwise this is gonna turn into a cluster fuck and I'm not wanting any part of that. My team is ready to do scrims anywhere between 7:30Pm CENT to 12:00midnight, Which means basically each person will get there chance to try out in a live scrim just to see where you stand, now those of you with proven Cal exp need not do this try out, but if in a scrim and you show you have no clue thats going on you'll be asked to leave, no hard feelings but lieing gets you no where ;).

Anyways just some thoughts, we'll get this rolling once we have a vent server up and me and sloppy see who shows up and stays around. Also my team is currently fooling around in TWL to play match type games and such, so we get things organized you guys will be more than welcome to particpate in our matches. Guys, check the irc log below. I was the troublemaker, not Serpens. If we get enough guys, Dwight has said we can have two CAL teams going and SF will support 2 CAL servers (the chicago server is a dedicated). If you want to be pissed about Serpens jumping in and "taking over", blame me, trust me, I can take it. ;)

thanks torrin, tippo. yeah, i like to let my team know what's going on, and in these games, staying alive long enough to let your team know what's going on really counts. That way when they come back into your area of the map, the know who's where, etc.

I do know that I have to fix my mic though. It seems that vent works ok, but then the ingame mic keeps enabling the gain, and that just kills it. Even when i go into the voice options, turn it off, save, exit, then go back in, it's re-enabled again.
