New DDR 3 is coming to a store near u next year!

even though it's slower than ddr 2, ddr 3 will be faster once they get to the high end side like 1333 mhz. currently there at 667 or 800 mhz.

yeah... probably not worth it right now. I'm sure it'll be kicking some major ass mid next year though :)

and i was about to buy a new computer.
still will after intel prices drop a little more.
it would cool if they were to make an adapter to put ddr 2 memory into ddr 3 slots.
then u could upgrade when u want to.

i think they are making motherboards that are compatible with both DDR's

Negative. DDR 2 and DDR 3 are same pin-out...but they moved the key notch in it so that idiots don't put the wrong RAM in.
Best solution if the RAM can be obtained cheap enough would be to DDR 3 and "suffer" with the slow speed stuff.

Some motherboards on this list say they are compatible with both unless im misunderstanding that.

The chipset can do either or...it's the board manufacturer to define which standard is in use. It can't literally do either or with just 1 board.
maybe if they make 6 slots for ram...3 for ddr2 and 3 for ddr3. LOL what a waste of space though. personally i've missed out majorly once by bying too fast and not waiting for the next gen stuff. i think this time i'm gonna go for dd3 and upgrade the ram later when it gets faster while utilizing slightly slower ram for the time being. i can't wait b/c my estimated upgrade for my computer is already around 1k.. oh god this is gonna hurt the wallet some :(
