It seems that AMD is in fact aquiring ATi. While ATi will still continue to develop ATi titled cards, this could be a major plus for the amd architecture, and improve AMD's market share quite a bit. An article on linuxwatch has something to say about a sign of things to come, being that AMD is a very open source supportive company, it is hoped that, therefore, the ATi linux drivers may be released open source and therefore become much improved.
