Anyone have a dedicated ebook reader such as the Kindle? I've been using the Kindle application for the iPhone to grab some free public domain books I have been wanting to read (Art of War, Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, Frankenstein, The Prince, etc) and start reading them but it's obviously not the best way of reading such a book. I was just looking for people's thoughts about ebook readers (readability, cost efficiency, etc).

you pay what 300-400 bucks for a device that lets you read books n stuff and store multiple books on it? and you still have to buy the books not counting the free ones....

how often do you read more than one book at a time lol? personally i think they are a waste of money and they look fragile so id be afraid of breaking it

Honestly, people have been known to buy books just to decorate a bookshelf.

I feel like I'm being a Luddite here, but I really think a physical, printed book is about an elegance of design as a book can come in.

I can see the advantages to having one if you're using it for making notes or taking advantage of public domain titles (or pirating, you naughty fuckers).

Something to keep in mind with the Kindle, it makes use of cloud tech. Meaning you never 100% own anything you buy for it.

And Amazon can delete any of your purchases whenever they want. See the current lawsuit they have against them right now regarding 1984.

In regards to ebook readers, I wasn't just referring to the Kindle. There are many other options with many more coming. But, yes, the current domination of the space by Amazon is a problem - though the market is still young.

This is pretty much my opinion on it. I read a lot, but I don't know if the cost of one justifies it.

id rather just buy the book once... and have it until i lose it and not worry about the service going under or deleting things or breaking the device or upgrading to the latest device...
