After reading VARIOUS and I do mean various forums. I've come to a decision on future prize giveaways. Sponsor whoring will be cut completely in half.
Going forward, Stompfest will provide:
1.) Prizes for 1st and 2nd place tournaments. (Pending sponsor commitments)
2.) A handful of random drawing prizes.
3.) Prizes for select contests, like Ghetto Rig, Best Rig, Arm Wrestling, etc.
That's all... I know most, if not all of you will care. However, I'm tired of seeing posts about throw-outs, and every other complaint post.
Now... this will in turn kill other complaints as well. This will keep me and the other staff off the microphone all day, so everyone can enjoy their gaming experience.
I believe it's time to bring the LAN Scene back to it's roots anyway. Back to when it wasn't about paying 25.00 to win a prize, but paying 25.00 to play games for 2 days straight.

Hey Code:
This was my first time joining a tournament at Stompfest after attending the last 4 or 5 and I must say it was some rush beating the first two teams 7-0 and coming so close against TeamDFI that finally won it with Team icf. It totally rocked and it felt great to be so close to winning (earning) a big $$$ prize along with a case for each gamer. Just an idea...I'm sure alot of us would be willing to pay a little more to start on friday evenings to Sunday morning, but I understand all of the work it takes the night before to get setup. Another idea, randomly put the throw out prizes and t-shirts in the bag you get at the door. Then use the other prizes for tournaments, case mods, best sportsmanship, etc... I agree that I think the mic was used way too much because it had to be with all of the prizes and tournaments because Stompfest just freakin rocks dude. It is off the chain and I love it. I look forward to it every 6 months and I hope it gets to be every 3 months eventually...lol. I stand behind Stompfest in whatever decisions you make.
PS - If we would have had the Sponsor Scavenger Hunt this time, I would have definitely won. I spent several thousand dollars on my PCs from Sponsors since the last Stompfest. but I'm not gonna whine, complain, bitch and moan because this was the best Stompfest ever and for once I did what it was all about...Gamed.

Hmmm, I don't like to whine but I also so like contact sports which prevented me from participating in the "throwouts". Guess I'm too old fer that kind of thing. It looks like those that participated were having a good time, however, so I derived entertainment from their flailing on the floor LOL.
I don't think the prizes are what bring folks out anyway. The love of gaming and getting together with your friends is why I went. I didnt expect to win anything. Had a good time Code, thanx! :D
hey code rem theses are only the voice of a few people(i e one who dont like there is plenty that do )

Warrior,
I really feel bad for not doing the Scavenger Hunt. It got down to the wire that I had so much going on (TeamDFI, Stompfest, AVault, College, and more) that I couldn't find time to throw it together. I gotta say so, our sponsors WERE requesting that we do one, because it's a huge revenue booster.
Bring your receipts to the next one, I'll be sure to throw one again. :)

why can you not use some of the donated merchandise to give to the independant tournament directors to use as prizes for their tourneys?

We did...
Counter-strike received 5 Sennheiser PC-130's to giveaway. Quake 3 receieved 2 PC-130's to give away, and I think I gave another unofficial tournament a prize to give away.
We definitely support official AND unofficial tournies.

okay.... more then... to more places.... to encourage even more tourneys to take place. "we got 5 t shirts up here for the winners of a 5v5 bf tourney if anyone wants to get one going,... we can host!"
something like that, and give junk out to every place.... im just offering suggestions, instead of turning down potential sponsors dontations so that you dont have to throw stuff out.
most of us came to game... so may as well reward it as much as possible. maybe even give stuff out to further places in official tourneys. who knows, the possibilities are endless

I'm just surprised to know that out of my 2 years of LANning and multiple Stompfests that NOONE has bitched about prize throw-outs until this event.
That was my point code....I say keep it the way it is!!!! dont change

That was a super cool thing to do bud. It's nice people like you that keep the lan's alive and thriving. Also guys like Rage who go so far above and beyond it's crazy to help others.
