I haven't done much with Linux, but I agree with all that you've posted if Lindows is anywhere as stable as the Unix I used at IUPUI.

Well, to add a little gas, Intel is starting to win over some AMD users. Why?

The 1.6ghz Northbridge I think it is can be far overclocked more than the best AMD. I'm trying to find the article I read on it but it was surprising how much ahead Intel is really moving on AMD.

Granted, I've always been an AMD man, but don't you get tired of having to be soooo careful with and AMD cpu? Miss putting the FS on by 1mm and it will burn up. Never happens with Intel.

AMD burns a lot hotter too, don't all those fans drive you nuts?


Point, I run an AMD 1900 in my Antec Case and the fans are mad loud. I have a Compaq Evo Workstation (from work) that's a Dual P4 1.7 box, and not a sound comes from it, what's up with that?

In other news the 2600+ came out today ant the benchmarks had me wetting my pants. Plus [H]ardOCP got a huge overclock on it. :D I can't wait for the 2800+ with the Barton core and a 333mhx fsb.

Hehe, I posted that video so people would be informed. The good news is, they took that and made requirements that mobo's detect heat rising on the AMD cpu's and immediately shut of power to keep them from frying.

So far, only two have implemented this system for the newer AMD's.

Well, if it weren't for the drastically more $$$. AND the fact that Intel likes to lie and say clock speed matters the most, thus making dumbass consumers say "ooh this is 2600 mhz, it must be better". Idiots.

Combine that with the fact that Intel's had some lovely batch problems producing DOA cpu's, especially at higher clock speeds, and that's my reasoning. Actually, my solution has been not to buy anything new for a while, given that both seem to be a bad decision. Either can have a burnt out AMD, or a DOA P4. Hrm...

AMD has responded to the video pretty well and is working with mobo makers to help combat that problem.

If they could land a few investors, they could have their engineers be able to focus on making a faster, more stable chip like Intel does. They just barely have the resources to keep up with and exceed clock speeds.
